Matthew 7:24-27 AMP – “24 So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (wise) man who built his house upon the rock. 25 And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a stupid (foolish) man who built his house upon the sand. 27 And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell–and great and complete was the fall of it.”

Whether you are wise, or foolish – crap happens, storms come – the storms don’t come because of wisdom or because of foolishness. Storms just happen.

But it wasn’t the storm that defined the situation, nothing caused one storm to be worse than the other – they were just storms. It was the foundation of the building that determined the destructive power of the storm. A storm isn’t actually destructive if it doesn’t destroy anything.

Jesus said Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) – he doesn’t destroy everyone, but he tries. His destructive power is only effective against those who have not made a firm foundation on Christ.

What have you built your life on?

What you have built your life on will determine what happens to you when storms come.

There are two things you can build your life on:

1. The first thing you can build your life on is sand.

Sand represents the world – anything that isn’t God.

You can build on drugs, alcohol, friends, girlfriend, or boyfriend…But if any of these things are taken away from you what happens? Depression, anxiety, loneliness, hopelessness, etc.

Building on sand comes from a place of foolishness.

It’s important to note that the foolish will hear the same things as the wise. What separates the foolish from the wise is action. Don’t just be hearers of the word – but be doers. Doers are wise.

2. The second thing you can build your life on is a rock.

The rock represents Jesus.

This person does it, lives it, and is obedient to what has been said…they have built their lives on God’s word and live it out daily.

Malachi 3:6/Hebrews 13:8 – God never changes!

When you build your life on the one who never changes – you will always stand firm! Jesus is your rock and foundation!

How to do all this:

Get WisdomProverbs 4:5-9

How do you get wisdom? – Ask for wisdom – James 1:5

It’s all King Solomon did

1 Kings 3:6-15

You are at a point right now where you need to decide what kind of foundation you are going to build your life on. Will you build your life on this world – being up when it’s up, and down when it’s down? Or will you build your life on God who never changes! The choice you make will define your life.
